Just Because They Need It Doesn't Mean They'll Want It ...
Strategies for Long-Term Oral Health and Patient Motivation.
2 CEUs
Handouts Available
How do you motivate your patients to prevent disease or improve
their oral health? This issue is one of the most challenging
that dental professionals deal with on a regular basis. Risk
assessment, including CAMBRA, and motivational communication are
critical elements on which you can develop a customized treatment
plan for your patient. Patient adherence dramatically impacts
the prevention of dental diseases as well as the long-term success
of therapeutic, restorative and cosmetic procedures. Research
shows that true motivation comes from within. Participants
will be introduced to a communication method know as Motivational
Interviewing (MI), which has been shown to elicit "Change talk"
directly from your patients. MI has been proven to be
effective in counseling and is now being utilized successfully in
healthcare and dentistry.

Optimal function, aesthetics and longevity in contemporary implant
dentistry can only be achieved through a combination of basic
biologic concepts and leading-edge technology. The surface

New evidence for combining bone-inductive proteins and growth
factors with currently available bone graft materials to enhance
soft and hard tissue wound healing for improved clinical results
will be reviewed. This presentation will focus on WHAT IS

"Women's Aging Complexities:
The Impact on Oral Health - Part 1"
4 CEUs
Handouts AvailableAs the numbers of aging women increase worldwide, dental professionals
face significant challenges and opportunities. Recognizing
gender specific health concerns impacting the overall well being of
patients has become increasingly important. Oftentimes, women
are at greater risk for specific medical conditions and are simply
unaware. From preventive care to treatment strategies,
options, medications and resources, we as dental professionals
become challenged to stay informed as medical needs change during
the aging years. Women's medical concerns such as
cardiovascular disease, diabetes and osteoporosis will be addressed
with their surprisingly strong influence on the oral cavity.
This presentation will detail the current research linking systemic
disease with gingival and periodontal inflammation.
Additionally, with the issue of osteonecrosis of the jaw being
prominent in the media, education of dental professionals in
balancing dental health needs with bone health concerns is vital.
This course will provide a detailed overview of osteoporosis and its
treatments.
